About the Painted World
The imaginary world created by Canadian artist Wildago is a carefree, whimsical sort of place that is often funny, sometimes zany, perhaps, on occasion, even a little strange. But it’s never, ever dull.
That’s because the characters that inhabit this world have a certain something about them. Something that tells you there’s a lot more to them than first meets the eye.
Take Pearl, all shimmering beauty and captivating charm. She’s always out and about meeting interesting new people, so how come she never seems to notice Edmund? True, he’s quiet and unassuming, but there’s a thoughtfulness about him, a sensitivity she would surely find attractive. Then there’s Pearl’s best friend, the sexy, slinky Smokey. Why do we suspect that beneath that glamorous, party girl exterior there beats a heart of pure gold? And let’s not forget oh, so eccentric Mother-of-Pearl. She’s very much the grande dame these days, yet does that twinkle in her eye recall memories of a wilder youth?
Wildago’s paintings give us a vivid insight into this colourful world. Vivid, yet tantalisingly brief. It’s as if each painting is a small piece taken from a much larger mosaic.
So why don’t we provide a storyline to bring all these pieces together?
The answer is simple. We’d like you to create the story yourself. That way you’ll have your own take on things. You’ll be brought closer to our world. And we’re sure that the closer you get, the more you’ll understand its magic.
Besides, no one at the Painted World of Wildago has time to be writing stories. We can barely keep up with everything that’s going on as it is! One minute Pearl’s being whisked away to the latest groovy party, the next Edmund’s off, looking for something else to add to his dazzling array of accomplishments. Mother-of-Pearl is forever calling you over, ‘Darling! If I could just have another one of the scrumptious pink gins!’ And as for that minx Smokey- Ooh la la! We daren’t even think about what she gets up to! And if all that wasn’t enough, poor Wildago has the constant headache of trying to keep tabs on hapless sidekick ‘Dangerous’ Dave, whose attempts at marketing, whilst well-meaning, invariably end in mayhem and destruction...
Thankfully help is at hand. Wildago is fortunate enough to have a worldwide community of friends who help us lighten the load. And they seem to enjoy doing it, too. They suggest new scenarios for Pearl and Edmund, provide fashion tips, ideas and all sorts of useful feedback. They take part in our light-hearted competitions and quizzes. And we really appreciate it whenever they leave comments for us on Facebook or mention us on Twitter.
So why not join them? You don’t need to sign up, register or send in your contact details. And you certainly don’t need to spend any of your hard-earned cash. In fact in order to be part of the Painted World of Wildago the only thing you need is something you’ll be happy to bring with you. Your imagination.
