This painting is from a small French Connections series I did in the year my father turned 70; his ancestry is French as is his first language. I love art by the French masters and it was a wonderful excuse to reproduce some of them with a twist. I chose Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun because she had a fascinating career as a French portrait artist during the 1700s. Madame Le Brun had notable patrons including Marie Antoinette and also painted portraits of the family of Catherine the Great and the last king of Poland.
The original Pearl de Le Brun is in a private collection in The Netherlands.
