| Wildago delegates bring a painted view of Sheffield International Doc/Fest
October 2009
The 16th year of Sheffield’s International Doc/Fest sees two unexpected delegates of painted proportions attending the five day documentary festival, held 4-8 November 2009.
Wilda Goyetche has been invited to paint this year’s Doc/Fest through a series of commissions depicting the vibrant and creative festival days. Wildago’s painted characters Pearl and Edmund will feature in the seven colourful scenarios of festival life.
Festival Director Heather Croall comments - "We can't wait to welcome Doc/Fest's most quirky delegates to Sheffield in November."
The seven signed commissions will be presented as alternative trophies at the end of festival awards allowing winners to take away a framed original piece of Wildago artwork to commemorate their success in Sheffield.
Pearl and Edmund are introduced to the Delegates of Doc/Fest in the weeks leading up to their arrival in Sheffield with sketched snapshots of pre-festival observations. Included as part of the Doc/Fest weekly e-newsletter anticipation for the festival is built as Pearl and Edmund portray experiences other Delegates of the festival will experience for themselves in November. Pearl and Edmund will also feature in Doc/Fest Daily a printed newsletter for each day of the festival.
Wilda will be part of Doc/Fest herself as she is given access to all areas of the festival to focus in on workshops, screenings and debate to document a painted journal of the five days which will be exhibited at Doc/Fest 2010. She comments - "I'm excited and very grateful to be involved in Doc/Fest. I only hope that Pearl and Friends can behave themselves for five whole days!"
Wildago
Wilda Goyetche is creator and curator of the painted world of Wildago that features Pearl and Edmund as the two lead characters. Wildago charts their many adventures through striking depictions of the vivacious Pearl and intriguing Edmund. A vibrant and captivating story is told through art showing their distinct personalities, behaviours and friends which combined lead to a fascinating portrayal of life based experiences and the vivid imagination of Wilda.
Based in Sheffield Wilda Goyetche is a self taught artist. Emerged in art from a young age but travel, life, love and work have meant the foundations for Wildago were constructed gradually until a recent point in 2008 when Wilda created the first original artwork to introduce the Pearl and Friends series.
The interaction of the characters with their friends (both two and four legged) shows aspects of human nature such as the tenderness, comedy, high jinks, ambition and diligence we might sometimes overlook in the haste of daily life. These are at times poignant and quirky and ultimately give a thoughtful perspective. Wildago has been created through channelling Wilda’s impish sense of fun and quirky side to bring imagination into painted reality.
An admirer of figurative abstracts Wilda has based parts of her world of Wildago around influences taken from this genre, toning down or exaggerating certain anatomical features. Pearl and Friends are no exception and their distinct looks have won the hearts of collectors and elevated Wildago to emerge as Sheffield’s current must-have artist.
Attracting a wide ranging audience who are drawn to the characters of Wildago because of their collectability factor has led to a large and growing fan base to commission their own scenarios. Personal collections are growing as active collectors of Wildago enjoy the friendly, playful yet purposeful and easy to recognise situations of their own creation.
Art from Wildago is available as original paintings or limited edition prints. Commissions are undertaken.
