Sheffield artist Wilda Goyetche hopes you enjoy her paintings as much as she likes creating them. Most of her art focuses on the lives of Pearl and Edmund, two fictitious characters who are destined to meet. She paints lots of other stuff in an easy-to-recognise, whimsical style and is always game for a new commission.

Wilda is lucky to have two nationalities - Canadian and British. She was born in 1966, Nova Scotia, a fisherman's daughter, and got into trouble on her first day of school for drawing pictures all over her wooden desk.

When she grew up, Wilda became a computer geek and didn't make much time for art. She did get to visit and live in different places and met her Geordie husband, Steve, working in Bermuda. They moved to Sheffield in 2004 where Wilda retrained as a fitness instructor. With more leisure time than before, she began filling sketchbooks again.

Wilda has always been in love with paintings but never believed she could be an artist herself. That notion changed when she taught herself to paint in 2008. Transforming sketchbook doodles into colourful works of art is something she finds rewarding and even addictive.

"I have noticed that my paintings often make people smile or laugh. That makes me feel good about my art."
