I spent ten years in Sheffield and most of that time as an emerging artist. At first glance you’d think an industrial city would not be a nurturing environment for such an endeavour but oh how wrong it would be to think that way! Sheffield is not only full of creative talent but generous patrons. I painted Ah! Sheffo to thank one such supporter who gave me permanent exhibition space in his Campo Lane restaurant, Urban Deli. Since he liked the old Bisto (gravy powder) ads, I used the theme to put Pearl and Edmund outside the door of his deli and added a splash of Sheffield’s beloved Henderson’s relish. The original painting is in a private collection in Sheffield, UK.
